Top 10 myths of S&OP

leave a comment »

Last week JDA announced that they partner with Oliver Wight and have the OW IBP methodology integrated in their new software solution. They also partnered in the release of a white paper on the top 10 myths of S&OP.

You have to leave a lot of details to get to the white paper, so I’ll give you the top 5 they table together and you can decide for yourself if you want to go through the effort. Real knowledge sharing shouldn’t require this much information

First 5 of top 10 myths discussed:

1. Q: Who owns the S&OP process? A: The person responsible for the P&L

2. Q: And the next problem S&OP needs to solve today? A: S&OP is an aggregated monthly process, not daily

3. Q: There is too much strategy and not enough execution? A: Aggregated plans should be disaggregated to sku level if needed

4. Just look backwards: S&OP is fact based, assumption driven and looks forward

5. It’s all in the numbers: S&OP should be more assumption driven then number driven
